How perfect is that phrase for what is arguably the most joyous time of year for all of us?
And what better group to sing the praises of Christmas than The Beatles?
As a teenager in the Sixties I was caught in the web of Beatlemania. I followed every movement The Beatles made – whether it was on television, in the papers, or in a teen magazine such as Datebook or 16. And, of course, I bought every Beatles single or album as soon as they found their way to the record store or the local five and dime.
But it was the Christmas release of a new Beatles single or album that I most anticipated. You can be certain that I asked my parents to buy it for me at Christmas! And more likely than not, I would find a Beatles record under the tree brightly wrapped in festive Christmas paper. What joy!
What Garry and I have tried to do in this book is to describe and illustrate what these recordings were like and their impact on an adoring audience. The Fan Club Flexis had an effect on not only the fans but on The Beatles themselves through the years – as seen by their solo releases, fan club greetings and more. Additionally, Christmas and The Beatles made lots of money for numerous businesses during the past 40 plus years. We’ll cover those as well.
